'only' 6-7 birds reported during the past two days including one at Hatzook beach , one at Jerusalem and one caught and ringed at Yerucham lake


Red-breasted Flycatcher Ficedula parva

One at Shchoret camp ground, eilat on the 22nd (R. Vaisanen et al.). One of the earliest spring records. 



Hill Sparrow Petronia brachydactyla

400 (!) at Trashim, northern Hameishar on the 23rd (R. Segali et al.). Flocks of tens seen in many places including Uvda, Hameishar and Mitzpe Ramon 


Cinereous Bunting Emberiza cineracea

27 (!) at wadi Tzviya and around on the 23rd (O. Sherer), inlcluding two of ssp semenowi. Singeltons in other familiar sites

Subalpine Warbler Sylvia cantilans

At least 20 different birds reported during the last two days, including 5 at Mt Amasa (4 on the 20th), 4 in one bush at Holland Park on the 21st while two ringed at Hatzerim on the 21st. (B. Granit, E. Shochat, D. Gochfeld, IBRCE team, and many more).  A truly incredible spring for this species!

One reported near Ashalim on the 20th (T. Khan) 


Hill Sparrow Petronia brachydactyla

Hundreds at Uvda on the 21st (T. Khan et al.) Also, 70 at Hameishar, 40 at Neot Smadar and 70 at mt Amasa while smaller numbers seen in other sites in the Negev.  


Cinereous Bunting Emberiza cineracea

A nice number of 23 birds at wadi Tzviya and the nearby area (Mt Gilboa) on the 20th (Avner Rinot). Singeltons seen also at Mt Amasa, Susita and Kfar Edumim by other birders.

One at IBRCE on the 19th morning. Probably same bird was heading north over km 19 on the evening.

3 at Beer-Milka on the 19th (Y. Basar)

Five at Mt Amsa on the 19th (Y. Kiat et al.) and one at Goral hills on the 18th (O. Sherer)


Cyprus Wheatear Oenanther cypriaca

A female at Mt. Avnum, Hatira crater on the 18th (Elon Gur). The only record for this spring so far


Subalpine Warbler Sylvia cantilans

at least 7-8 observered during the last three days, including one at Tel-Baruch, 1-2 at Mt Amsa, one at Goral hills, two at Nachal Haroe, one at Holland Park and one at Shezav reserve.

Same good numbers continue with 15 and 10 birds at Holland Park and IBRCE respectively while 12 at Arsuf north to Tel-aviv on the 17th (T. Khan)

A 1st winter at Eilat's north beach on the 13th (J. P. Smith et al.)

One off Ashdod beach on the 15th (R. Livne)


Blue-cheeked Bee-eater Merops persicus

10 at Hefer valley and 5 at the Hula valley, both on the 16th (F. Yavin, J, Dierschke). Rare in both sites.

Two still at Yotvata on the 16th (F. Moffat)

Nearly 15 birds reported/photographed during the last 4 days, almost all from southern Israel, including 4 together at Holland Park, two at IBRCE on the 15th, two at wadi Zichor on the 14th, two at k km 152 central Arava on the 15th, one at Kalya on the 15th and  few more elsewhere.

7 at Tel-Baruch on the 8th and 13 at Arsuf on the 9th (B. Granit, I. Donitza). Smaller numbers of 2-5 birds, reported from many places.

One at En-Bokek Hotels, Dead Sea on the 8th (J. Meyrav et al.)

An impressive gathering of 100 birds at Mt. Masor, Central Arava, on the 9th (I. Shani), 15 at Sde Boker on the 7th (R. Efrat) and Two at Mt Amsa on the 8th (J. Meyrav et al.)

Two at IBRCE on the 6th (Rei Segali et al.) 


Ruppell's Warler Sylvia ruppeli

Still good numbers at the south and western Israel i.e. 20 around Lotan on the 4th (F. Moffat) and 9 at Hatzook on the 6th (Y. B. Aroia). Smaller numbers were seen in many places.

Good numbers along the Arava (i.e 3 around Lotan on the 4th, F. Moffat) and along the Dead Sea including 7 at Kalya on the 6th.

One caught, ringed and released on the 6th at the Hula lake  (S. Agmon et al.)

An adult male photographed at Hatzook coastal dunes, north to Tel-Aviv (Y. Chen). The species is very rare along the coastal stripe in Israel.

One photographed at Habonim on the 1st (Arad Ben-David). Thruough the past 5 decades about handful records of unknown origin. Interesting, A Magpie reported flying over Caesarea about a month ago, though wasn't photographed or descibed.
