Little Bittern Ixobrychus minutus - 35 passing north over the SPNI's Eilat field School on the 26th.





White Stork ciconia ciconia - a bird ringed as fledgling in Algeria last summer was observed at the Jordan Valley at the beginning of the month. The first ringed bird from Algeria to be discovered in Israel.


Crested Honey Buzzard Pernis ptilorhynchus - singletons at Eilat from the 12th onwards, some were photographed.


Honey Buzzard Pernis apivorus - 55,000 over Eilat mountains on the 30th, representing the first mass passage day of their season.


Demoiselle's Crane Grus virgo - one over Jerusalem on the 10th.


Baillon's Crake Porzana pussila - relatively good spring for this species with 1-4 birds in several sites with proper habitat throughout April.





Terek Sandpiper Xenus cinereus - one at Ayelet Hashachar, Hula Valley on the 7th and one at km20 salt pans, Eilat, on the 27th.


Great Snipe Gallinago media - one at Gush Etzion, the west bank, on the 11th, one at Hamadiya on the 15th-16th and one at Hamaapil fishponds on the 19th.





Long-tailed Skua Strecorarius longicaudus - nine at the North Beach, Eilat, on the 12th where singletons were notable at the rest of the month.


Mediterranean Gull Larus melanocephalus - the bird found at Eilat’s southern saltpans at the end of March remained till April 1st.


White-winged Tern Chlidonias leucopterus - 500 at Eilat’s southern saltpans on the 26th and same number there on the 30th.


Short-eared Owl Asio flammeus - one at Hayarkon Park on the 2nd and one at Eilot fields on the 11th.


Namaqua Dove Oena capensis - one at Tel-Baruch, Tel-aviv on the 28th. The 3rd for Tel-baruch.


Blue-cheeked Bee-eater Merops persicus - 48 passed over Nizzana on the 7th.


Thick-billed Lark Ramphocoris clotbey - several pairs have successfully bread at km 82, the Arava Valley, and probably at Seifim plains, the Southern Negev.





Dunn's Lark Eremalauda dunni - a fledgling was photographed at Seifim plains on the 16th.


White-throated Robin Irania gutturallis - 4 sightings including 1 at Ashdod on the 20th, two at the JBO on the 21st and one at Neot Smadar on the 30th.





Song Thrush Turdus philomelos - 37 at Michmanim, Lower Galilee on the 15th. Quite an unusual number for such a late date.


Black Bush Robin Cercotrichas podobe - apart from the Yotvata Hi-bar 'population', singletons were reported from the town of Eilat, Eilot's and km 20's date plantations, Yotvata sewage, Neot Smadar date plantation and sewage and Lotan.





River Warbler Locustella fluviatilis - one at Kunetra, Golan Heights on the 21st and one at the JBO on the 28th.


Menetries's Warbler Sylvia myctecea - one at Yotvata dunes on the 5th.


Asian Desert Wabler Sylvia nana - one at Jaffa Port on the 25th. The 3rd for the Mediterranean zone and the latest rearguard ever recorded.


Barred Warbler Sylvia nisoria - influx around the mid-month, mainly in central Israel i.e. 9 and 13 were ringed at one spot Modii'n hills on the 15th and 16th. Small numbers were seen all over, including Eilat, Jerusalem and the Med coast at the last two weeks.   


Olive Tree Warbler Hippolais Olivetorum - birds reported mainly from the Mediterranean zone from the 21st onwards including 5 at the JBO on the 28 where 3 ringed on the 29th and 2 at Modii'n hills on the 30th.


Hume's Leaf-Warbler Phylloscopus humei - one at Kibbutz Hatzor on the 6th .





Red-breasted Flycatcher ficedula parva - one at Mt. Carmel on the 11th, one at Lotan on the 22nd and one at km 82, the Arava, on the 23rd.


Collard Flycatcher ficedulla albicollis - The most impressive influx of black&white flycatchers since 2009, led by Collared, passed through mid April. Between 12th-16th 56 were counted at Neot Smadar on the 12th, 50 at Yerucham on the 15th, 30 at Hayarkon Park, Tel-Aviv on the 13th, and smaller numbers in many places. 12 birds were ringed at the JBO, and 9 at Yerucham lake on the 14th.





Rosy Starling Pastor roseus - one at km 20, Eilat, on the 15th and one at the Bird Park, Eilat on the 28th


Common Rosefinch Carpodacus erythrinus - one at Nebi Samuel on the 21st
