Two breeding occasions: at least two pairs with young at Ahshalim reservoir, southern Dead Sea (S. Blitzblaow et al.) and two young at different ages at En Hamifratzz on the 10th (Y. Siliky and D. Melamed)

Nine on the 9th and thirteen on the 10th at Eilat's north Beach (R. Shaish et al.)

Hardly anything to report during the past week with exception of: 

 

Long-tailed Skua Stercrorarius longicaudus

One at the North Beach on the 19th (S. Shalev)

 

Bridled Tern Onychoprion anaethetus

47 birds at Eilat's north beach on the 19th evening - a new Israeli record (S. Shalev).  1-6 birds daily during the past week. Also, one Lesser Crested Tern

 

 

Other than that: 

Wader migration still slow at the med coast with rising numbers of Curlew SandpipersLIttle StintsLittle Ring Plovers, Turnstones, tringa sp. an odd Whimbrell several Gull-billed Terns, etc. Although Autumn has officially began the feel is still quite slow.

One still at the North Beach on the 21th (U. Davidor). Two Pomarine Skuas were there too

Belated news: a suprising juv was well photographed at Yavne on the 18th (D. Sharon, M, Cohen et al.). An extremely early vaungard as the species doesn't appear usually before 2nd week September. ID confirmed. 

 

 

Lesser Crested Tern Sterna bengalensis

17 at Eilat's north beach on the 25th afternoon (S. Shalev). One of the largest flocks to be recorded at Eilat. 

 

 

Bridled Tern Onychoprion anaethetus

40 (again) on the 25th evening (S. Shalev). Imppressive summer for this species.

Sooty Shearwater Puffinus griseus

One at Eilat on the 26th (R. Shaish). 

 

Yellow-billed Kite Milvus aegyptius

 A coniding adult or near-adult photographed at km 19 sewage works, Eilat on the 27th (S. Shalev). Apparently the bird was already photographed there on the 18th (Y. Charka) but was not confirmed. Less than 5 national records including this one. 

 

Bridled Tern Onychoprion anaethetus

20 on the 26th morning at EIlat (R. Shaish)

 

Also: first Red-necked Phalarope at Eilat and an Olive Tree Warbler at the JBO.

One reported at Yotvata on the 12th (I. Shani). Observer's confident, no photograph could be taken.

Handfull, up to two per site, ringed at Hazzzok dunes, Modi'in hills and Beer Sheva (E. Hoter, E, Shochat and R. Paz et al.) 

 

River Warbler Locustella fluviatilis

One was heard singing at Newe Ur on the 14th (T. Khan) 

 

Red-breasted Flycatcher Ficedulla parva

One at Sde Boker on the 14th (M. Laloya) 

 

Daurian Shrike Lanius Isabellinus

- One at Sde Boker on the 13th (R. Efrat et al.)

- One reported at the Agmon, Hua valley on the 10th (D. Zinsmeyster)

Atlantic Puffin Fratercula arctica

First for Israel! - one found dead, though in "good shape" (but dead) at Bustan Hagalil beach on the 15th (P. Shilo). An amazing recoord for eastern Mediterranean 

 

Red-breasted Flycatcher Ficedulla parva

A belated and status claimer news: A male apparently photographed at Dimona on 25 August (A. Dnadeker). This record is 5 days earlier than the 2 birds seen and photographed at Nafcha on 30/8/2018 and so being the earliest ever vaungard. It also points that at the end of August there was an earliest wave than ever recorded (at least by one month) 

 

Steppe grey Shrike Lanius pallidirostris

One photographed  at Yotvata on the 14th (G. Leithner et al.). Quite an early record.

One at Zor'a on the 23rd (Y. Kiat) and apparently one a the Hula during the alst two weeks

 

Arctic Warbler Phylloscopus borealis

FIrst for Israel! One ringed on the 23rd at the IBRCE (Clare, Parau and Myles et al, on behalf of IBRCE team), Photographed. Well done and a second 'first' within a week! 

 

Yellow-browed Warbler Phylloscopus inornatus

A very early one ringed at Sde Boker on the 23rd (B. Paces et al.)

Crested Honey Buzzard Pernis ptilorhynchus

- a dark morph female in active moult (growing p7 and p8) at IBRCE on the 24th (B. Granit, A. Shneor). Moult indicate that this bird was probably over summered at Eilat (Probably the same bird reported from end of June) 

- singltons reported at migration alon Israel western route during the past days. 

 

White-tailed Lapwing Vanellus leucurus

One at Habsor on the 24th (S .Levi) 

 

Oriental Skylark Alauda gulgula

FIrst for the season was caught, ringed an released at Ariel Sharon Park, Tel-aviv outskirts on the 26th (Y. Dax et al.). A somewhat early arrival. 

 

Arctic Warbler Phylloscopus borealis

The bird was not relocated on the following days 

 

Daurian/Turkestan Shrike Lanius Isabellinus/Phonicuroides

A juv, most probably a male at Neot Smadar on the 24th. (R. Livne, B. Granit, A. Shneor). Most probably another Daurian Shrike at the same place at the same time (captured in one flight photo...)

At least 5 birds observed/reported during the last few days, mainly along the western migration route or the Mediteranean coast. 

 

Pacific Golden Plover Pluvialis fulva   

An adult in a resevoir at Jeazrael valley on the 29th (E. Golan). Apparantly there from the 7/9/2018.
