Learn how to sketch birds and plants with artist and birder Amir Balaban.  At the Jerusalem Bird Observatory.

 

Wednesday 18 July - Nature photography workshop with Amir Balaban 8:00 - 13:00

How do you catch that perfect nature photo?  What are the tricks to good nature photography?  Learn how to take photos like a pro with nature photographer, artist and birder Amir Balaban.  Participants will need to bring a camera to the workshop

How many plants and animals live at the JBO?  Put your detective skills to work! Join staff of the JBO as we attempt to record and count every species of plant and animal that lives on the site in the summer.

 

*Tuesday 24 July - Night bioblitz at the JBO 18:00 - 22:30                                                

What animals can be found at the JBO at night?  Search for spiders and bats, porcupines and moths with the JBO staff as we attempt to record and count every species of plant and animal that lives on the site in the summer.

 

*Sunday 29 July - Bioblitz at the Gazelle Valley Park 8:00 - 13:00

How many plants and animals live at the Gazelle Valley Park?  Put your detective skills to work! Join staff of the JBO as we attempt to record and count every species of plant and animal that lives in the park in the summer.

 

*Monday 23 July - Unfolding the Secrets of Bird Migration  

*Wednesday 1 August - Unfolding the Secrets of Bird Migration

*Thursday 9 August - Unfolding the Secrets of Bird Migration                                           

 

Learn the different ways that scientists are studying the secrets of migration around the world. Join the ringing team of the JBO at a ringing session and explore how ringing is helping us to learn how birds migrate and where they are going.  Learn how to conduct a bird survey and how you can participate in research projects being conducted around the country.

 

*Registration fee of 10 nis.

Workshops are supported by the City Science Challenge of Education Department of the City of Jerusalem.

Birdwatching for Beginners.

How do you identify birds?  Where can you find them? What equipment do you need?  Learn the secrets and tricks of birdwatching with staff of the Jerusalem Bird Observatory.

 

Hebrew course:  24/7 and 7/8 17:00 - 18:30 ,   Friday 31/8 07:00 - 10:00

English course:   31/7 and 14/8 17:00 - 18:30,   Friday 31/8 07:00 - 10:00

Summer Ringing Course. August 23 and 24

For those interested in volunteering and participating in bird ringing research. This course is the first step in the process to obtaining a bird ringing licence. Attendance at the whole course is required.   For age 14 to adult only. Call for more information: 02-6537374.

Enjoy the cooler temperatures at night while exploring the JBO for owls, porcupines, bats and more. Learn how animals use their senses to survive at night!  For age 5 and over !

Advanced Registration is Required – there is a limit on group size each night.

Urban Nature of the Knesset Trail

Fridays  6/7, 20/7, 3/8, 17/8, 31/8   at 09:00

Explore the urban nature and history of the Knesset Trail - as we walk from the Knesset, through the Rose Garden and the Jerusalem Bird Observatory with many interesting stops along the way.  Easy walking trail with some shade.

Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday in August starting 12/8 at 10:00 Search for signs of animals at the Jerusalem Bird Observatory.  

Where do they live? What are they doing? What signs do they leave behind? Learn to think like an animal as we explore together.

 

All about Birds

Mondays and Wednesdays in August starting 13/8 at 10:00

Why are birds different from all other animals?  How do they eat? What birds live in Jerusalem? Learn all about birds with staff of the Jerusalem Bird Observatory.

 

Art in Nature

Sundays 12/8, 19/8, 26/8 at 13:00

Try your hand at drawing or painting nature at the Jerusalem Bird Observatory. For the whole family!

 

Peace Cranes at the JBO - origami workshop

Mondays 13/8, 20/8, 27/8 at 13:00

Learn the story of the Peace Cranes and try your hand at making this famous origami bird and other origami animals. Age 6 and over.

 

The Wonder of Small things

Tuesdays 14/8, 21/8, 28/8 at 13:00

How many insects and other small creatures live in the city? Learn all about our insect neighbours and why they are so important to us.  

Build your own insect to take home.

 

Use it again crafts

Wednesdays 15/8, 22/8, 29/8 at 13:00

A fun afternoon making crafts from recycled materials and materials from nature.  Figure out fun ways to "use it again".

 

Flying with the birds  

Thursday 16/8, 23/8, 30/8 at 13:00

Explore the wonder of flight and learn how birds manage to fly thousands of kilometers on migration.  Investigate how feathers work and try to make the fastest paper plane you can.
